YULETIDE: CONTROVERSY TRAILS OUTREACH AS LAWMAKER BANS MULTIMEDIA COVERAGE

BY ZAKARI ISAH

In what seemed like a tragicomic drama in Ankpa local government area of Kogi State, a member of the house of assembly went into contradictory show with his aides while distributing Christmas and new year goodies to his constituents.

The honourable member, Rabiu Isiaka Alfa who represents Ankpa II constituency at the Kogi state house of assembly reportedly banned his supporters from taking photos of either him or beneficiaries of the food items and soft cash he was distributing at the eve of Christmas but his overzealous apologists' who attempted to foil his resolve degenerated the process.

An eye witness(name withheld) described it as a little misunderstanding and that no issue or physical assault occurred at the scene. "Nothing serious really happened, anybody that knows Hon. Rabiu will tell you he is a no-nonsense guy and that is exactly what transpired. He only shouted at those taking snapshots of the outreach and that was all."

In another development, Mr Sabiu Alfa, an adent supporter of the honourable maintained that all went well during the distribution of food items noting that the honorable only wanted it done on a low key which he described as a decision that deserves respect and even more rewarding in the sight of Allah.

Efforts to reach both the honourable and his media aide proved abortive as the honourable's lines were off while his media aide, Comrade Nasir was not picking up calls to his mobile lines.

It will be recalled that the honourable has to his credit annual distribution of welfare packages to faith adherents during festivities and so, one will only wonder what might have prompted him to ban coverage. No matter the reason, the initiative is commendable even though a permitted publicity shall add more strength to his political value.
