SPEAKERSHIP :IN THE SPIRIT OF FAIRNESS TO THE NORTH CENTRAL

In a democratic setting , the majority always have their ways , no doubt the ones with the highest numbers carried the day .

Democracy is a game of number but in some cases , some measures are introduced to give some sets of people a sense of belonging. 

In a third word country like Nigeria Zoning has to been introduced for peace and unity to reign because of nature of the country with different tribes , religion and geopolitical zones , the country has two major religion, hundreds of ethnic groups living together. 

As the people of Nigeria  look foward to the inauguration of the next elected leaders, the leadership of the national has become an issue that must be tackle with utmost sincerity, a level playing ground to give each zone a sense of belonging, it would be recalled that the emergence national assembly leaders of the eighth assembly is still fresh in the memory of Nigerians. 

The leadership of the ruling party handpicked some people to led the house , this didn't go down well with some of the legislators and this led to a kind of revolt or conspiracy by some members of the APC legislators conniving with opposition members to elect leaders for the national assembly. 

As the day for the inauguration of new leaders of national assembly approaches , the ruling APC is still making the same mistake by handpicking individuals to led the ninth assembly instead of them zoning it to geopolitical zones. 

President Muhammadu Buhari  is from northwest Nigeria , the zone that gave the APC the highest votes , Vice President Osinbanjo is from Southwest, a zone that came fourth in term of votes for the APC , the party is still insisting of zoning the speaker of the House of Representative to the southwest despite the interest and cries from the people of North Central that gave APC the third highest votes. 

The Northeast that got APC the second highest votes has been rewarded with Senate President leaving the north central with nothing to show for their commitments and goals of the APC.

As much as the party decision need to be respected, it should also be noted that the decision and wishes of the people is more important as there is no party without the people. So it is my believe ,APC should respect the wishes of the people of North Central ,respecting the wishes of the people is more important to heeding to the wishes of individuals. 

Traditional leaders, political leaders, youth organisations from the north central have all indicated their wishes that the ninth speaker of House of Representatives should come from the zone , it is my hope and prayers that the leadership of the APC would listen to the wishes of these people in order not to jeopardise the chances of the party in the zone .

One name that has continue to be on the lips of the people for the speaker of house of representatives is Hon Umar Mohammed Bago, the member , representing Chanchanga Federal Constituency.

Hon .Bago a 45 years old refined legislator is from Niger State , he is a third timer , he is presently, Chairman House committee on Maritime Administration and Education. 

Hon Bago has been in the forefront championing the cause of North Central ,Hon .Bago has given the people of the zone a voice to be heard .He is a loyal party man , he has contributed immensely to the growth of APC .He also contributed largely to the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, he donated more than one hundred vehicles for the campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari. 

Hon .Bago has many bills and motions to his name , he is credited to be one of the best legislators when it come to legislative duties.

His works in the committees has been adjudged as one of the best .He is a refined democrat per excellence, a believer in human capacity development, a goal getter.

Hon. Bago has huge support from his collegueus, this has been greatly influenced by his humility, oratory skills and administrative acumen. 

Many online poll have tipped Hon.Bago has the favourite among his collegueus , And history has shown, no one impose in the national assembly has successfully ended a tenure , the only ones that have successfully ended their tenures are the ones that the legislators elected themselves.

As the days of the eighth assembly comes to an end , it is the hope of the people of North Central that APC will do the right thing, will make sure equity comes to play and zone the speaker to the north central.
