One Year of Excellence and Accomplishment: The Stewardship of Dr. Etsu Shabamaliki Muhammad, Provost, Niger State College of Agriculture, Mokwa

The first year of Dr. Etsu Shabamaliki Muhammad leadership as Provost of the Niger State College of Agriculture, Mokwa, stands as a testament to vision, dedication, and transformative leadership. Since assuming office, Dr. Etsu has demonstrated unwavering commitment to repositioning the institution toward academic excellence, infrastructural renewal, and administrative efficiency. His tenure has brought a wave of progress that has redefined the college’s image within just one year.

1. Clearing of Inherited Debt

One of Dr Etsu earliest and most commendable achievements was the complete clearance of the inherited debt from the previous administration. This prudent financial management restored stability and credibility to the college’s financial operations, creating a clean slate for further growth and development.

2. Accreditation Milestones

Through strategic leadership and proper coordination, the college achieved accreditation for Higher National Diploma (HND) in Animal Health and Technology (AHT) and National Diploma (ND) in Horticulture. This feat not only expanded academic opportunities for students but also enhanced the college’s reputation as a center for agricultural excellence.

3. Solar-Powered Summative Pump Installation

Dr Etsu introduced an eco-friendly solar-powered summative pump system for both the college orchard and livestock units. This innovation ensures sustainable water supply, supports agricultural productivity, and reduces the institution’s dependence on conventional energy sources.

4. Revival of College Vehicles and Equipment

Under his administration, two of the college’s buses and the only tractor were successfully revived. This intervention greatly improved mobility for staff and students and revitalized the college’s practical agricultural training programs.

5. Wi-Fi and Solar Research Centre

Recognizing the importance of technology in modern education, Dr Etsu oversaw the installation of a solar-powered Wi-Fi and research center for staff and students. This has improved internet accessibility and fostered an enabling environment for academic research and innovation.

6. Construction of a Screen House

To meet the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation standards, a modern screen house was constructed. This facility enhances practical teaching and learning in crop science and horticulture programs.

7. Renovation and Furnishing Projects

The renovation of classrooms and the furnishing of the Provost’s quarters have brought renewed comfort and dignity to both the learning environment and administrative operations of the college.

8. Provision of Water System to Administrative Block

The administration also ensured constant water supply to the college’s administrative block, improving hygiene and overall working conditions for staff.

9. Empowerment of Casual Staff

Dr Etsu demonstrated compassion and inclusiveness by increasing the number of casual staff—especially in the security unit—and improving their stipends. This gesture has boosted morale and productivity among the college’s workforce.

10. Upcoming Solar-Powered Borehole Project

In line with his sustainability vision, plans are underway for the construction of a solar-powered borehole at the Veterinary Clinic and Twin Laboratory, to ensure steady water supply for animal care and laboratory activities.

11. Furniture and Laboratory Upgrades

Dr Etsu also facilitated the construction of tables and chairs for new staff and students, while equipping the Animal Health Laboratory with additional tools for better practical learning.

12. Office Equipment Modernization

To enhance administrative efficiency, data processing machines were purchased for key offices such as the Registrar’s Office, Academic Office, Examinations Office, and Records Unit.

13. Digital Advancement in Information Management

The Information and Protocol Unit was equipped with an Android device and data subscription, ensuring smoother information flow and digital communication across departments.

14. Strengthened Institutional Relationships

Dr Etsu has maintained a cordial and productive relationship with the Niger State Ministry of Tertiary Education, fostering collaboration, support, and recognition for the college’s progress.

15. Leadership, Vision, and Prayers for Continued Success

Today, Dr. Etsu Shabamaliki Muhammad is widely admired as a mentor and visionary leader. His good intentions, strategic planning, and transparent leadership have rekindled hope in the college community. The staff and students continue to pray for him — for wisdom, good health, and greater achievements in his noble mission to elevate the Niger State College of Agriculture, Mokwa, to greater heights.
