In the effort to sustain infrastructural renewal in the state and in recognition of 'health is wealth' truism, Niger state Governor Abubakar SanI Bello has decided to rejuvenate primary healthcare (development) centres across the state.
The importance of PHCs cannot be overstated in light of the immediacy of succour it provides the people tucked in the nooks and communities. The trend of having people with minor ailments travel entire distance from their communities to general hospitals often at the local governments is uncalled for. Such a situation has brought untold suffering and hardship upon the people.
Health indeed become more abundant only when accessible within minimum reach of community people without the hassle of traveling miles and kilometres. Most often, the situation has caused minor ailments to ho out of hands before help could be reached. Is it not absurd also for people in minor challenging health situation to go to tertiary and secondary health centres, when it is better for them and more cost effective for government to have such issues managed right within the communities by the PHCs?
It is the readiness to reverse such picture that the Governor has decided to build additional 274 PHCs, one in each ward and properly equip them with needed human and material resources to address needs of people timely, effectively and efficiently.
To demonstrate that he's a man of his words, the Governor has distributed drugs worth millions of Naira to the newly constructed PHC in Fuka, Munya LG, commissioned by the Etsu Nupe, HRH. Alh (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar.
The Hon Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale and Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, ED/CEO National Primary Health Care Development (NPHCDA) were present at the Occasion.
