HON FATIMA N. MADUGU'S GIANT STRIDES IN EDUCATION.

Hon. Fatima N.  Madugu's Giant Strides in Education...

As a leader, all you ever need, standing astutely by you, are a crop of supportive aides, with strong ideas and innovative instincts to help in pushing your administration’s growth and developmental blueprints, to such enviable hieghts and limits. Haj. Fatima N Madugu, is indeed one such aides, whose ideas and innovative instincts have not only suited but have also fuelled the flames of the honest and sincere, government of Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, in Niger State. Indeed, the people of Niger State, have only to count their blessings, since the appointment and emergence of this passionate educatiinist, as the Niger State Honourable Commissioner for Ministry of Education; Hajiya Fatima Madugu. Thus far, her landmark contributions, have aptly fit into the beautiful puzzle, put in place, by the current administration, whose main drive, is the RESTORATION of the ailing educational sector, in Niger State.

Hon. Fatima N. Madugu, a soft-spoken, thoroughly bred educationist of high repute, is without any doubt, a meticulous planner, whose quintessential perpersonality,  has not only set the educational sector of the state on the right track but has also put the sector on the world map. This was evident when the state Governor was once again, commeded by the Minister for Education; Alhaji Adamu Adamu, who also promised to partner with the Niger State Government, in the area of Technical and Vocational education recently.

Under her watch, and inline with His Excellency’s RESTORATION AGENDA, quite a number of state-owned schools, that were hitherto abandoned to rot, were given a fresh breath of life as they were wholistically renovated under the "Whole School Approach Renovation Programme". For instance, Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Minna, (MBGSC), Government Science  college, IZOM, (GSC), Idris Legbo Government Science College Kutigi, (ILGSC), Governemnt Girls Secondary School, Bida(GGSS), and a host of others, were all given a lease of life. In the case of MBGSC, Minna, records have it, that it was the first time, since the establishment of the school, more than 50 years ago, that the school is witnessing this wholistic look back, or what was termed, whole-school renovation approach. The only time the school was partially touched up, in the name of renovation, was in 1991, when the nomenclature was changed to its present one.

Commendably, another state owned institution that was completely neglected, for well over four decades, after its establishment, is Nursing school Bida. The institution was left unattended to, with worn-out, or worse still, obsolete infrastructure and facilities decomposing within and around the Institution’s vicinity. Regrettably, owing to this long period of neglect, by successive administrations, the glory of the school, soon gave way, as the then focal point, nursing training school, for both Niger State her envy-stricken neighbours, gradually became, a shadow of its former self.  Today however, the story has a sweet, memorable ending, as the Institution’s fortunes, have been turned around, with the enablement of the Niger State Government and the dogged leadership style, of this amiable Commissioner; Hajiya Fatima N Madugu. Interestingly, the major trademark of this Commissioner, is to make her actions speak for her, as she spares no time, or wastes no valuable efforts, in a bid to tell the world, that in fact, the Niger State Government, has done, and is still doing, the long term educational dreams of Nigerlites. Indeed, there is no gain saying that the Niger State of Governor, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Sani Bello, has restored the lost glory of many institutions, in Niger State, and quite assuredly, Nursing School Bida, is just one of those positively transformed Institutions. As you read this, the school has witnessed an unprecedented, total renrenovation, and is equipped with standard facilities, that will stand the taste of time, thereby restoring the lost glory of this aged citadel of learning. Following which, the Institution, has also been accredited and is now improved and poised, to run new courses, inline with its mandate. In addition, the School, has been made for commencement of Diploma, and HND programmes. Also worthy of note and commendation, is that the Institution is now a fully registered Member of African Nurses Association(ANA). This, of course, is highly commendable.

Similarly ,  Niger State College of Nursing and Science Kontagora was also remodelled, upgraded, fully equipped and accredited to run her programmes. Though this was started under her watch, as Commissioner, overseeing both tertiary and basic education institutions, in Niger State, the project was eventually not completed under her watchful supervision.
The idea of Teachers Professional Training Institute was equally birthed under the leadership of this silent achiever.  The state owned institute, the first of its kind in Nigeria, is an incubation Centre for professionally trained and well motivated teachers, that will, in the nearest future, salvage the image of teaching profession, in Niger State and in Nigeria as a whole. The Centre also provides training and retraining for in-service teachers, with a view to repositioning and continually sharpening their training and skills, to do their job, even better. Students of this institute are unprecedentedly drawn from the 274 political wards of the state and fully sponsored by the State government. Two other Centres, are soon to take off, in Niger State, for the remaining Zones A and C.

As it stands, today, Hajiya Fatima N.Mohammed Madugu has not only become a household name, in the State’s educational arena, but has also written her name in the annals of history, in Niger state and Nigeria, for her landmark achievements and developmental strides, as enviably recorded and noted, by all the lovers and followers, of the trends, in the Niger State education sector,

In all honesty,  this humble Commissioner and people’s favourite, is ever so grateful to Gov.Abubakar Sani Bello, the Niger State Executive Governor, for providing her the needed opportunity, platform, and support to perform at this optimal level, for the greater good of man and the society. More than anything else, she would be eternally grateful to Almighty Allah, who Has seen her through many landmark successes and achievements, over this whole period.

“Alhamdulillah!”.
