APC Senatorial Primaries: Katcha cleared for Wadada
By Maryam Gata
Senator Mustapha Sani Mohammed's campaign across Niger South Senatorial District continued in Katcha Local Government Area on Thursday.
As it's been since it begun in Mokwa LGA on Saturday, Thursday's had not shortage of colour. And the colour was boisterous.
The reason behind the overwhelming ovation and acceptance he meets anywhere he goes is the unprecedentedness of lawmakers executing hundreds of life-touching projects. Rather, they favour peddling impotent grammars at the national assembly or lost in savouring the perks which their offices come with. But Senator Mustapha Sani Mohammed, having understood that the people for whom he's a messenger are enmeshed in acute infrastructural dearth, adopted projects-savvy legislature which allows him to channel his efforts to activities that would herald solutions to people's challenges.
In barely three years, with a two-year budget, he has greatly resolved the issue of potable water which many parts of his zone have been perennially battling.
Same could be said in the areas of education, power, healthcare, employment, empowerment, etc.
The historic giant leaps are apparently the genesis of the towering ovation, pump and pegeantry with which he's welcomed by hundreds of people and members of his party, the All Progressives Party (APC) anywhere he goes since Saturday.
Katcha's journey started in Badeggi. In conformity with his trademark, his first point of call in the town was the official residence of the Dagacin Badeggi who showered praises on the senator over his achievements, especially for siting one of the skills acquisition centres currently in the works in his domain.
While urging him to not allow the gusto with which he is heralding positive change in Niger South to wane, the traditional leader wished the lawmaker success in the polls.
The Dagaci also advised his people to give their votes to the lawmaker, if they felt at home with his antecedents.
Then the procession went to Dzwafu ward where its people and those of Sidi Saba and Bakeko wards converged for the record-breaking senator to meet with them
He interacted with them, told them about his very many greatany leaps and his future plans, for which the packed venue erupted in glee.
Turn-by-turn some stakeholders commended him for always considering the people first and for fighting for the reconstruction of Lambatta-Lapai-Agai-Bida road. The reconstruction begun recently after a fraction of the N33 billion earmarked for it was released by the federal government.
The people also lauded the lawmaker for returning the attention of the federal government to Baro inland port.
The late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua started the project, which is capable of boosting the economy of Niger South astronomically and also dip the zone's crunching unemployment rate. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan halted it. The lawmakers representing the zone at the time did nothing to turn the attention of the government to it. But Senator Mustapha Sani, having known its essence to the zone tirelessly lobbied, and today Baro port is in the final phase of construction and could soon be launched for the activities it was conceived for.
The project-savvy senator also went to Katcha town itself. For the day, Katcha had the most giant, thunderous and supportive crowd, which caused the senator to dance into the town. During an homage to Sheshi Katcha, the traditonal ruler tasked the senator to rally the federal government to find a viable solution to the ecological problems which his domain and other places in Niger South suffer annually.
He noted the surveillance respectively carried out by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo after some communities were flooded, saying the senator should ensure that the solutions promised by the leaders are fulfilled in no distant time.
In his response, the senator assured Sheshi that he would take every of the requests made by the people of his domain forward, and also promised to elicit more development to Niger South.
He said his numerous projects across Niger South in barely three years was a pointer that he's the revolutionary the zone had been in search of, hence he desrves another term to consolidate on them.
Then the meeting with members of the APC in Katcha.
Obviously because of his achievements, the chants of "Wadada continue", "Wadada tested and trusted" and "no vancancy" for other candidate engulfed the air.
