MOKWA COUNCIL MAYOR BAGS SDG AMBASSADOR AWARD
Hon. (Amb) Jibril Abdullahi Muregi, the Executive Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, was bestowed with the prestigious Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Ambassador Award (SDG AMB) today. The award, presented by the SDG organization in collaboration with the Peace Corps of Nigeria, recognizes Hon. Muregi's outstanding achievements in youth empowerment, exemplary leadership, and humanitarian services.
The Nationals Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Prof. (Amb) Dickson A. O Akoh, officially introduced the award, emphasizing that the recipient holds United Nations recognition. Hon. Muregi, as an SDG Ambassador, gains access to the UN's facilities and has the privilege to attend its general assemblies for one year. Additionally, he will be provided with a customized nameplate, officially recognized by the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, bearing the title "SDG AMB" for the same duration.
The award ceremony, held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, was part of the Silver Jubilee (Founder's Day Celebration) in honor of the Peace Corps of Nigeria. The Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers and Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness Alh. (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar CFR, while presenting and decorating the people's Chairman, commended him for his exceptional representation of Kinnupe and urged him to continue his commendable work.
Expressing his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him, Hon. Muregi stated, "This recognition by the SDGs and the Peace Corps of Nigeria is a significant milestone with a profound impact, as it extends to the global stage. It will further motivate me to serve the interests of my people and humanity as a whole."
The event featured distinguished guests and dignitaries, including a paper presentation by Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, th Vice-Chancellor of Nassarawa State University, and a keynote address by Capt. Bishop C. Johnson, a retired officer of the U.S. Army. Traditional performances and other activities added color and vibrancy to the celebration.
Under the chairmanship of HRH Alh. (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar CFR, Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, the event also saw the presence of His Royal Majesty Prof. James Iorzua Ayatse, Tor Tiv Benue State, and His Royal Highness Dr. John O. Eliagwu, Ochi'Idoma V. Benue State. Distinguished stakeholders from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) graced the occasion.
