Niger South (Zone A) is not just another senatorial district. It is the political heartbeat of the Nupe nation, the district with the largest concentration of Nupe people anywhere in Nigeria. Whenever Zone A produces a strong senator, he is not merely representing Niger South, he is carrying the voice, pride, and aspirations of the entire Nupe people across the country.
The Nupes are Nigeria’s fifth-largest ethnic group, yet in recent years our voice has been fading from the national stage. This was not always the case. We once had towering figures like Aliyu Makama Bida, the Deputy Premier of the Northern Region, who gave direction and visibility to our people. We had Suleiman Takuma, who as National Financial Secretary of the ruling party wielded immense national influence. We had Professor Jerry Gana, a distinguished minister, adviser to presidents, and scholar whose words carried weight across Nigeria. These were leaders who made the Nupe voice impossible to ignore.
But today, that voice is under threat. Zone A is slowly losing its place in the national conversation. At a time when other zones are sending their very best to Abuja, we cannot afford to send a placeholder. We cannot afford to experiment. The Senate is not a training ground. Zone A must send someone tested, connected, and ready from day one.
This is why Hon. Sani Legbo Kutigi stands out. He is not a stranger to lawmaking. He has the legislative experience to navigate the tough environment of the National Assembly. He has the national reach and network to bring tangible development home. And above all, he has the maturity, patience, and wisdom to command respect on behalf of Zone A and the entire Nupe nation.
Our history demands nothing less. From Bida to Abuja, the Nupes have never settled for weak representation. We have always produced leaders who could stand shoulder to shoulder with the very best in Nigeria. Hon. Sani Legbo Kutigi is the heir to that proud tradition.
Zone A is at the crossroads. We can either continue to slide into silence or rise again as the voice of the Nupe people. The choice before us is clear. If we want dignity restored, if we want influence regained, if we want a true representative of the Nupe nation in Abuja, then the name is Hon. Sani Legbo Kutigi.
With him, Zone A will not just be represented, it will be respected.
