Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman: The Woman Wowing Men

Several years of human endeavor is most often marked and celebrated by the success and impacts of those men and women who contribute and see to the development of societies. It perhaps on this note that the concept of success and failure might have arise in human endeavors. It suffice to therefore that the success and failure of anybody saddled with public responsibility cannot be hidden, especially in a global world like ours where about seventy percent of able bodied men/women has access to the social media.

So, even though the word "wow" is ordinarily used for exclamation of amazement and surprise, in this context - it alters the latter to not just amazement but setting the pace and hence, the baseline of "wowing men" for the activities and accomplishments of this woman of substance, devote humanist, political liberator, icon of qualitative representation, embodiment of selfless service and a trail blazer of women political renaissance is one that is very uncommon in recent accounts of Nigerian political leadership.

Most especially in an era where the nation is bleeding from the oasis of economic backward that has rocked it as a result of the misconduct of some women folk who rode their ways into the nations treasury on the ladder of "who know who" rather than competence and antecedents.

Unarguably, at the run up of the 2015 general elections, Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman shall perhaps be the least person to be imagined will make the ballot not to talk of emerging and by realities put smiles on the hope yearning faces on the good people of Gurara local government area of Niger state. Alas, as the days drew close then, her star beckoned right from the the keenly contested APC primary election to the polls were she convincingly won and was returned elected without rancour.

However, upon securing the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, she had before the general election gone round the nooks and cranny of Gurara soliciting votes and support for her candidacy. In addition to her gender challenge-been a woman, she was a gentle speaker and so many doubting Thomas’s never believed she could make a good lawmaker not to talk of have the capacity to impact on the lives of the downtrodden but she emerged and two years counting on the Memory lane, of Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman has proved those doubting Thomas’s wrong.

If anything, she has achieved so much within her first two years in office and still preferred to remain silent about her achievements by not making any noise as most politicians would want. Within a relatively short period of time, she has done so much in the area of education, rural water supply, women empowerment, youth development, public servants capacity building, qualitative representation, human development, party advancement, welfare packages and a host of others which are fulfillments of her electioneering campaign promises to the people.

Obviously, rural development is the cardinal area of the self distinguished honorable's focus as during the period under review, the encapsulation of her interventions will metamorphose into nothing less than rural development. With what she has done so far across the ten wards, she has taken away doubt from women capacity because as at the time of her election, there was gender disrepair but today it is a royal eulogy by virtue of her fondly praised name "Gimbiya Lambata" which literally means Queen of Lambata and this goes to show that apart from clearing doubts, she also knows her onions.

While her strides are too numerous to mention, she has thus far in the area of portable water provisions resuscitated seven motorised boreholes across Diko and Boyi while plus a conventional one at Sabon Diko. Constructed one each in Buta, Kabo, Egba and Pasali communities in Bonu to complement her ward round construction of two boreholes across nine wards and seven at Lambata, the commercial hub of Gurara local government.

In the area of educational development, perhaps in deliberate consolidation of Mr governor's massive schools renovations, "Mai Gurara" built four classrooms blocks and two offices at Donbitso primary school, another three classrooms block at Tufa central primary school where she didn't live out an administrative block to serve office functions for the staff/teachers of the school. This is not to put away her printing and distribution of four thousand customised unsellable notebooks and four thousand five hundred schools bags to pupils across the constituency.

Other areas of her constituency development program is collaborative free medical care routinely organised, induction course for the ten elected ward councillors of the local government, payment of school fee for financially distressed constituents and acquisition cum distribution of over two hundred and fifty schools desks. She also occasionally provide stipend to teachers, religious leaders, traditional leaders and party faithfuls to augment the rising cost of living which is traceable to the countries national recession.

In addition to the foregoing, she has recently completed the construction of more classroom blocks at central primary school Lefu in Lefu Ward and continued construction works are ongoing at Dagbami in Lambata ward with great progress ahead of commissioning in the first quarter of year 2018. These are just too lofty a return to the people and of course, commendable!

Interestingly too, no fewer than 50 women who are indigenes of Gurara local government were trained by Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman in different trades among which included tailoring, fashion and hair braiding, tie and dye, pastry making, masonry, bead making etc. as I reliably gathered the member after the successful training of these women went ahead to start them up with sewing machines, ovens, cloth yards, pastries ingredients and related materials of the various trades learnt.

She is determined from all indications to return to the old era of using leadership to serve the people rather than oppress the people som delectably that she uses premier and concrete execution methods that enable all asunder to directly or indirectly feel the impacts of her stewardship.

In fact, even the blind can see and the deaf can hear about what Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman has done or is doing at the state assembly. Her outspokenness and vigor while making contributions as part of her legislative duties has not only earned her the admiration of political observers but prompted her colleagues to name her "Mace Mai Karfi" which implies strong woman. More so that she is the only female member of the Niger state house of assembly, her focus on the key objectives that are adaptable for competitive legislation cum efficient checks and balances has put her in the front line of law makers responsible for the successes of the executives as seen in the physical restoration of Niger state under the able leadership of Mr governor, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Sani Bello.

The state house of assembly speaker and other members who were at Gawu Babangida during one of her recent constituency outreach program while separately making their remarks at the program all confessed to her proficiency and advised the good people of Gurara to ensure she is reelected if not sent for higher responsibilities at the national assembly.

The right honorable speaker said-the state executives synergies with the legislators to revive and reposition the states great potentials such as providing security, infrastructure, improved agriculture and health care wouldn't have been possible without the motivations derived from Hon Binta whose up and doing efforts in oversight function challenges many of them who by virtue of their make gender ought to be on the leading stead.

By and large, Hon Hajiya Binta Mamman has distinguished herself in all areas that demand her representation of the good people of Gurara local government better than almost all her predecessors and her good works have set a permanent standard of assessing her future successors because aside her scorecard, a good number of constituents have and are still quietly benefiting from her gestures. This is to say, her supporters can now feel free of criticism and visit the Gurara water falls for pleasure and conveniently say to themselves..."Madam tagama aiki"
